Mid-December Round-up

As the year draws to a close, we have two main updates for the site, both of which are related to events taking place in, or concerning, Taiwan.

NEWS: In this section, we have a short report from Dr Jens Damm on the Taiwan in Motion workshop that took place at the University of Edinburgh last month. We also have an audio interview conducted with the organiser of the event, Dr Chia Ying-Lang, by Dr Ming-Yeh Rawnsley, who is a network member.

FESTIVAL REPORTS: In this section we have a report from the 2013 Taipei Golden Horse Festival, written for us by Menghsin C. Horng of UC Berkeley. This year’s Golden Horse was the 50th anniversary edition; appropriately enough, this report thus considers the festival from the perspective of “nostalgia and change”.

In our GALLERIES section, we also have a selection of photos from the Golden Horse, courtesy of Menghsin, which capture both the event itself and the 50th anniversary exhibition that accompanied it.

COMING SOON: Our bibliography of non-academic writing on Chinese film festivals is in progress. Many thanks to those of you who have responded with suggestions to date: we hope to have this finalised in the coming months.

Thank you,

Chris Berry and Luke Robinson
