Ma Ran (Graduate School of Letters, Nagoya University) is a network member, and a scholar of independent Chinese cinema. She has written us a report on watching the 16th Shanghai International Film festival “from afar”, which discusses some of the online discourses that emerged around this year’s SIFF. Menghsin C. Horng is a Ph.D. candidate at UC Berkeley, in East Asian and Film Studies. She has written us a report on the 50th Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival. The report can be accessed here. In addition, we have a gallery of images, both from the festival and from its 50th anniversary exhibition, which celebrated the history of the Golden Horse from its earliest years right through to the present.

Dina Iordanova is Professor of Film Studies at the University of St Andrews, and a network member who has written extensively on film festivals globally. She has written us a report on the Festival du Cinema Chinois in Paris, which took place in October and November of 2013. This report can be accessed here.

James Mudge of the Chinese Visual Festival has kindly agreed to allow us to post his report from the 10th edition of the China Independent Film Festival, which took place in Nanjing in 2013. This report can be accessed here.

We have a new update from network member Elena Pollachi, based at Ca’Foscari University in Venice. Elena was a jury member at the 4th Xi’an China International Folk Video Festival, which took place in October and November 2013. She has written an account of this experience for the website, which can be accessed here. In addition, a small gallery of images accompanies the report.

James Cummings, a PhD candidate in Sociology at the University of Newcastle, has written us a report on the 10th anniversary celebrations of the China Independent Film Festival, held in Newcastle last month, and organised by network member Sabrina Yu. James’s report can be accessed here.

Scott E. Myers, a PhD candidate at the University of Chicago, was at the opening day of the Beijing Independent Film Festival in 2014. He has written an account of what he witnessed in Songzhuang, which can be accessed here.
