Danny Bright is a sound designer, composer, engineer, recordist, musician and sonic manipulator working within the fields of theatre, performance, installation, music and media. He has lived, studied and worked in Sheffield, England; Burlington, Vermont, USA; and Brighton and Hove, England where he is now based. His practice explores the boundaries between sound, music and noise; he is currently developing multi-modal compositional, critical and installation work investigating sonic temporalities and auditory ‘ghostings’. Danny performs on guitar, samplescapes, tape, text/voice and electronics including with Tom Bush, Mongrel Sees Field, The Shape Of The Inconstruable Question, Erotic Generator, Billy Rubin and as an ensemble leader, solo artist and free improviser. He is resident sound designer for Simply Told, an Associate Company of Greenwich Theatre, and a regular collaborator with Gavin Robertson (Thunderbirds FAB, Six Sided Man), Scene Productions, and Lee Westwood. Danny’s work has appeared at the World Soundscape Conference, Victoria & Albert Museum, Prague Quadrennial, Summerhall Edinburgh, British Science Festival, Manchester, Newcastle & Brighton Science Festivals, Edinburgh, Bedford & Brighton Fringe Festivals, Magna Science Adventure Centre, and toured the UK, Europe, Australia and the USA. Supporting organisations include Arts Council England, Octopus Collective, MAGNA Trust, and Arts & Humanities Research Council as funder of his ongoing doctoral research in Music at the University of Sussex.
