GQC are excited to be working with MIX NYC to bring two programmes of queer experimental short films to CineCity in November 2012. MIX is a unique queer film festival that reminds us that queers have always been at the forefront of avant-garde filmmaking. As well as showing the latest in LGBTQ experimental film and video, MIX includes installations that take over and reimagine city spaces, parties that celebrate queer cultural space, and outreach projects such as a filmmaking project for queer youth. Certain GQC researchers have spent a good amount of time over the years at MIX screenings and it’s not an exaggeration to say that this festival has helped nourish and shape our ideas about queer cinema. We can’t wait to bring programmer Stephen Kent Jusick over to Brighton in the autumn and to bring some MIX style to the UK.
