In June 2010, in World Wide Angle, his regular English-language monthly column for the Dutch online web journal de Filmkrant, film critic and scholar Adrian Martin published a short essay called “A Voice Too Much.” In this very influential and widely cited piece, he reflected on the question of the authoritative voice in emerging audiovisual film critical formats, including the video essay.
Unfortunately, at least temporarily, the de Filmkrant archive has recently ceased to be a repository for this work. So we happily republish it today at The Audiovisual Essay website, with the kind permission of its author, in order to keep it as a valuable online resource.
