Becoming ‘Arturo Ripstein’? On Authorship and EL LUGAR SIN LÍMITES
Catherine Grant is Senior Lecturer in Film Studies at the University of Sussex, and one of the founding co-editors of Mediático. Today, to celebrate the website’s launch, she presents below an expanded and updated version in English of an article published to date only in Spanish. The article sets out a detailed case study of Mexican director Arturo Ripstein’s film adaptation of Chilean writer José Donoso’s 1966 short novel El lugar sin límites (‘The Place without Limits’, aka ‘Hell Has No Limits’), which featured a significant, though uncredited, contribution from the exiled Argentine author Manuel Puig.
