1. The Double Take: The Two Volcano Films of 2022
A conversation between Topiary and Alisa and featuring special guest Toby Ashworth, debating the virtues and complexities of the phenomenon of two different films being released in the same year about the same people, using material from the same archive. The two films are Sara Dosa’s film Fire of Love (2022) and Werner Herzog’s requiem The Fire Within (2022) about French volcanologists Katia and Maurice Krafft. Mid-way through the episode, Toby Ashworth, an expert on documentaries about geology, joins the conversation to share his knowledge and ideas about the history of volcano films.
