{"id":522,"date":"2014-04-09T09:00:15","date_gmt":"2014-04-09T09:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reframe.sussex.ac.uk\/sequence\/?p=522"},"modified":"2014-07-28T13:27:20","modified_gmt":"2014-07-28T13:27:20","slug":"publication-of-sequence-1-2-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reframe.sussex.ac.uk\/sequence\/publication-of-sequence-1-2-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Publication of SEQUENCE 1.2, 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/reframe.sussex.ac.uk\/sequence\/files\/2014\/04\/SequenceONE_metaslider1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-521\" alt=\"SequenceONE_metaslider1\" src=\"https:\/\/reframe.sussex.ac.uk\/sequence\/files\/2014\/04\/SequenceONE_metaslider1.jpg\" width=\"972\" height=\"501\" srcset=\"https:\/\/reframe.sussex.ac.uk\/sequence\/files\/2014\/04\/SequenceONE_metaslider1.jpg 972w, https:\/\/reframe.sussex.ac.uk\/sequence\/files\/2014\/04\/SequenceONE_metaslider1-300x154.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 972px) 100vw, 972px\" \/><\/a>&#8220;An Allegory of a \u2018Therapeutic\u2019 Reading of a Film: Of MELANCHOLIA&#8221; by Rupert Read<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are delighted to announce the publication of a response to Steven Shaviro&#8217;s magisterial article <a href=\"http:\/\/reframe.sussex.ac.uk\/sequence1\/1-1-melancholia-or-the-romantic-anti-sublime\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;MELANCHOLIA, Or The Romantic Anti-Sublime&#8221;,<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/reframe.sussex.ac.uk\/sequence1\/1-1-melancholia-or-the-romantic-anti-sublime\/\">SEQUENCE 1.1 (2012)<\/a>, the launch essay for <a href=\"http:\/\/reframe.sussex.ac.uk\/sequence1\/\" target=\"_blank\">PLANET MELANCHOLIA<\/a>, the inaugural issue of <a href=\"http:\/\/reframe.sussex.ac.uk\/sequence\/\" target=\"_blank\">SEQUENCE<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/reframe.sussex.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\">REFRAME<\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"http:\/\/reframe.sussex.ac.uk\/sequence\/about-sequence\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>experimental<\/em><\/a>, peer-reviewed, media, film and music studies <a href=\"http:\/\/reframe.sussex.ac.uk\/sequence\/about-sequence\/\" target=\"_blank\">serial publication<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/reframe.sussex.ac.uk\/sequence1\/1-2-an-allegory-of-a-therapeutic-reading\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rupert Read&#8217;s engagment<\/a> with Shaviro (the publication of which was delayed somewhat by the need to locate a technological solution to the matter of showcasing its innovative form: 33 philosophical sections, with 33 endnotes <em>and<\/em> 33 sidenotes) offers a <i>personal<\/i>, affective, and deeply philosophical account of Lars von Trier&#8217;s 2011 film <em>Melancholia<\/em>, one which engages in detail not only with Shaviro&#8217;s work on this film, but also, as the earlier essay also did, with the important issues <em>Melancholia<\/em> raises about depression and the extinction of our planet on their own terms.<\/p>\n<p>Further responses to Shaviro&#8217;s article are also in the works, and will be announced here soon.
