Amber Jacobs teaches Psychosocial Studies and Visual Culture at Birkbeck College. Her background is in literature, feminism, visual culture and psychoanalysis. Her monograph, On Matricide: Myth, Psychoanalysis and the Law of the Mother, is an intervention into classical psychoanalysis via feminist philosophy. Her recent research and publications are in audiovisual culture, film theories, the relation between new media technologies and unconscious fantasy and theories of feminist and queer spectatorship. She is a member of the Birkbeck Institute for the Moving Image and a founder of the Oktopus Film Collective. She also makes her own films, radio and video essays.
