We&#8217;ll be updating you every week with relevant stories, opportunities and events.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s just a few weeks until the opening of the <em>Side by Side LGBT International Film Festival<\/em> in St. Petersburg, Russia. The festival is an incredibly important site for global queer cinema. As the festival organisers say: &#8220;Among the countries providing the focus are China, Cuba, Uganda, Chile and South Africa, places where LGBT movements are still in their infancy and face great opposition.&#8221; You can find out more about the festival\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bok-o-bok.ru\/default.asp?lan=1\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In Nigeria, the Nollywood actor,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/world\/2012\/sep\/21\/nigeria-court-jails-actor-gay-offence\">Bestwood Chukwuemeka<\/a>\u00a0has been jailed for three months for having sex in private with a male friend. His arrest comes in the wake of \u00a0strengthened activism in Nigeria, in opposition to homophobic laws.<\/p>\n<p>Bourges, France is hosting a month long exhibition by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dellagracevolcano.com\/cv.html\">Del La Grace Volcano<\/a>\u00a0called\u00a0<em>Corpus Queer: Bodies in Resistance.<\/em>\u00a0You can read more about the exhibition\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.artrabbit.com\/uk\/events\/event\/30023\/del_lagrace_volcano_corpus_queer_bodies_of_resistance\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For those of you working in contemporary LGBTQ cinema, there is a call for papers in <em>New Cinemas: Journal of Contemporary Film<\/em> on <a href=\"http:\/\/call-for-papers.sas.upenn.edu\/node\/47744\">LGBTQ Cinema in the Early 21st Century<\/a>. The next week also sees submissions open for a conference at Wooster, Ohio, on\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/globalqueerness.voices.wooster.edu\/\">Global Queerness: Sexuality, Citizenship, and Human Rights in the 21st Century<\/a>.<\/em> The conference includes a queer international film screening.<\/p>\n<p>MUBI is showing over 20 films from the Portuguese <a href=\"http:\/\/queerlisboa.pt\/\">Queer Lisboa<\/a> film festival for free on their website.
