In a <em>Time Out Beijing<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timeoutbeijing.com\/features\/Books__Film\/22703\/Ten-years-of-independent-film.html\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> published at the beginning of August 2013, artistic director of the Li Xianting Film Foundation Dong Bingfeng reported that after last year&#8217;s surprise and allegedly accidental power cut, the festival had installed its own generator.<\/p>\n<p>On 23 August, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timeoutbeijing.com\/features\/Blogs_Books__Film_Blogs\/22999\/Beijing-Independent-Film-Festival-cancelled-Kind-of.html\" target=\"_blank\">news<\/a> came that the festival had been quashed more decisively this year.<\/p>\n<p>The next day, <em>Time Out Beijing<\/em> considered <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timeoutbeijing.com\/features\/Blogs-Books__Film_Blogs\/23002\/The-death-of-independent-cinema-in-China.html\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;the death of independent cinema&#8221;<\/a> in China.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Newcastle University student Lydia Wu wrote up <a href=\"http:\/\/dgeneratefilms.com\/uncategorized\/the-beijing-independent-film-festival-survives\" target=\"_blank\">a report<\/a> at the request of the Li Xianting Film Fund, published by dGenerate films in New York on their blog, which announced the survival of BIFF, after all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The saga of Beijing Independent Film Festival (BIFF)&#8217;s difficulties this year have received plenty of coverage.
